What are Goblin?
Goblins are one of the most popular fantasy creatures, often appearing in various fantasy series, anime, and comics, where authors have creatively portrayed them in very unique and diverse ways. But their real stories can only be found in folklore, often portrayed as mischievous and cunning beings. Generally, they are commonly described as small humanoid creatures with some distinct and exaggerated features, embodying both humor and menace.
History:
The origin of goblins can be found in European folklore, particularly in the Middle Ages, where they were known as mischievous and malevolent spirits.
Their name is believed to be taken from an Old French word gobelin which itself may have roots in the Germanic kobold, a term for a household spirit or mischievous creature. Goblins were often associated with caves, forests, and dark places, serving as guardians of treasure or tricksters who played pranks on humans. Over time, their stories have evolved from portraying them as spirits to entirely new creatures or beings from another world.
Physical traits:
A goblin’s appearance is one of my favorite traits among any other fantasy creatures. After all, why wouldn’t I like them? They are such unique, small humanoid creatures with sharp pointed features, including elongated ears, hooked noses, and jagged teeth.
Judging by their look, you can definitely say that they are almost like otherworldly beings…I mean just take a look at their skin tones. They have various skin tones ranging from earthy hues like green, brown, or gray to more unnatural shades, emphasizing their otherworldly nature.
Goblins are often shown as skinny and quick, with bent-over postures that make them look sneaky or kind of scary. Their eyes are usually glowing and generally green. However, goblins can look very different depending on the story or fantasy world they come from.
Abilities:
Goblins are often known for their trickery nature, and if tricking people can be considered an ability, then goblins do have this unique ability to trick anyone however they want. Other than their tricking ability, they are also very skilled at making tools, weapons, and gadgets from whatever they can find.
The most interesting ability of a goblin is their skill to move quietly, making it easy for them to steal or hide. Moreover, they also have a Dark Vision ability that allows them to see in dark places like caves or shadowy areas.
Some goblins can also use basic magic, often to cause mischief or defend themselves.
If you have ever played COC (Clash of Clans), then you do know that goblins can work better when they work in groups. Overall, yeah, their abilities can also depend on the story they are in.
